Popular culture changes constantly and presents itself discreetly in a certain place and a certain time. It forms currents and eddies, and represents a complex of mutually interdependent perspectives and values that influence society and its institutions in various ways. For example, certain currents of pop culture may originate from, (or diverge into) a subculture, representing perspectives with which the mainstream popular culture has only limited familiarity. Items of popular culture most typically appeal to a broad spectrum of the public. In order to truly understand how such trends are upcoming in design today, it is important to explore the history of not only design, but all cultural art forms.
Essentially, trends exist – through time.
This research concept (trends in art and culture through time) was translated into a book of a series of fold out posters, called “Movements” . Each fold-out poster covered a specific decade, dissecting the trends and themes that existed in that period. Fashion, music, art, film, and major events are explored through a timeline within the first and second fold. The final fold-out poster is a visual representation of all the themes and trends discussed, interpreted through graphic art.
